A Winning Start to 2009
Wednesday, February 04, 2009

This country race has grown in numbers each year and this year saw a record field. I won my age group comfortably, finishing 3rd overall and would have been close to the overall win if I hadn’t been sent the wrong way on the run!
A special thanks to Top Gear Cycles who managed to get me together a fantastic new bike in time for the race after a heavy crash had broken my previous racing bike just before Christmas. The new machine is just awesome and I look forward to riding it the rest of the season.
Next up was the third race in the Orbea series at Elwood which was over the Enduro format (2 x swim/bike /run). I put in a solid swim and after a quick transition I took the lead early in the bike and extended it through the race.
With my form still improving I am looking forward to the next Orbea race in February which is the Victorian Sprint Distance qualifier for the 2009 World Champions. After a win at Adelaide another good performance should secure my place on the Australian team.
Thanks as always for all your support
Michael
